Corals from our two nurseries (which also act as gene banks and research facilities) have a survival rate of 93.5%, and have helped restore an area of 5,000m2.
CHANGING THE WORLD ONE CORAL AT A TIME
Half of the world’s coral reefs have already been lost or severely damaged. If nothing is done, they will be the first ecosystem on Earth to entirely collapse. As one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet, coral reefs aren’t just fundamental to marine life, but the lives, livelihoods and communities that rely on them, too. Coral reefs could be extinct by 2050. But not if Coral Gardeners have their way.
GUARDIANS OF THE REEF
Meet Coral Gardeners, a group of young activists from French Polynesia. Their dream? To restore the most degraded reef areas around the world and bring back their life and color. Founded by Titouan Bernicot, they nurture heat-resilient corals in nurseries before planting them in damaged reefs. They’re driving a global movement to save the reef, educate people about its importance—and plant 1 million corals by 2025.
CORAL GARDENERS X NORTH SAILS
As an ocean brand, our goal is to be part of the change when it comes to marine conservation, preservation and protection. Supporting two of their nurseries in Tiaia, we’re proud to be helping Coral Gardeners in their work and are with them on the journey, every reef of the way.
IMPACT REPORT 2022
The movement is growing fast—and it’s bluer than ever. Coral Gardeners has had its best year yet: more corals outplanted than ever before, more square meters of reef covered than ever before, and more people around the world than ever before joining them on their mission to revolutionize ocean conservation, one coral at a time. Here’s the top line from the 2022 Impact Report.
